Fishing: Landings Increase by 9% at End of March – ONP

Casablanca – Landings of marketed products of coastal and artisanal fishing reached 210,703 tons (T) during the first three months of this year, up 9% compared to the same period of 2022, according to the National Fisheries Office (ONP).

The value of these landings amounted to more than 2.918 billion dirhams, against 2.905 MAD billion a year earlier, the ONP said in its recent report on the statistics of coastal and artisanal fishing in Morocco.

By species, landings of seaweed, shellfish, crustaceans, white fish and pelagic fish have increased by 51% to 4,091 t, 51% to 46 t, 39% to 2,563 t, 22% to 25,738 t and 13% to 158,722 t respectively. On the other hand, the landings of cephalopods decreased by 30%.

By port, 4,974 t of coastal and artisanal fishery products were landed in the Mediterranean port entries at the end of March 2023, a decrease of 13%. In terms of value, these ports have recorded an increase of 9%.
