On this occasion, Cerqueira welcomed this visit, the first of its kind of a president of the National Assembly of Angola, leading a delegation of MPs from different political currents, noting that this visit will help to give new impetus to cooperation between the legislative institutions of both countries.
She also praised the democratic development that the Kingdom of Morocco has experienced, as well as its distinguished parliamentary experience, adding that “Morocco is a strategic partner with which we share the same values of peace, stability, human rights and sovereignty of States,” said a statement by the House of Representatives.
For his part, Talbi Alami stressed the depth of historical relations between Morocco and Angola, recalling the important support of Morocco to the struggle of the Angolan people against colonization.
He reviewed, on this occasion, the democratic and institutional development that Morocco has experienced, mentioning in particular the large-scale projects being implemented under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to enshrine the rule of law, institutions, respect for human rights, promote the place of women and the economic and social situations in the Kingdom, and achieve comprehensive development in all its dimensions.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the legislative institutions of the two countries during this meeting, marked in particular by the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Angola in Rabat, Diogo Baltazar Crisovao, and the president of the Moroccan-Angolan parliamentary friendship group, Latifa Cherif.
The memorandum aims to strengthen and expand parliamentary cooperation between the two institutions, to reflect the strength of the bonds of friendship between the Moroccan and Angolan peoples and consolidate relations between the two countries.
The two parties will work to strengthen political, economic, cultural and scientific ties between Morocco and Angola, as well as to consolidate parliamentary cooperation through dialogue, consultation and coordination of positions in international, regional and continental parliamentary organizations and events, based on the priorities of both countries.
They will also ensure the exchange of information, experiences and best practices in terms of legislation and other fields of intervention of both legislative institutions, as well as the exchange of visits between the committees, the two friendship groups and the administrations of both chambers.
