Road Accidents: 27 Killed in Morocco’s Urban Areas Last Week

Rabat – A total of twenty-seven people died and 2,482 were injured, including 113 seriously, in 1,883 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas during the week from 24 to 30 April, said Tuesday the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN).

These accidents are mainly due to the inadvertence of drivers, failure to respect the right of way, speeding, inadvertence of pedestrians, and failure to respect the safety distance, among other reasons, said the DGSN in a statement.

Regarding the control and repression of traffic violations, the security services have established 39,699 tickets and 7,037 reports submitted to the prosecutor, while 32,662 fines were recovered, added the same source.

The sums collected under these tickets have reached 6,898,800 dirhams, according to the statement which reports the impounding of 4,323 vehicles, the seizure of 7,037 documents and the withdrawal of 217 vehicles from circulation.
