Lower House Speaker Meets with Chairman of Standing Committee of NPC of People’s Republic of China

Rabat – Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, met, Friday in Rabat, with chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, Zhao Leji, currently on a working visit in the Kingdom leading a delegation of high-level officials.

This meeting was an opportunity for both parties to highlight the various qualitative advances that have marked the Chinese-Moroccan cooperation particularly since the historic visit made by HM King Mohammed VI in May 2016 to the People’s Republic of China and which had been crowned by the signing of many cooperation agreements covering the various areas, said a statement by the House of Representatives.

Zhao Leji expressed his joy to visit Morocco, as the first foreign destination after his election as chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, which reflects, he said, the depth and strength of bilateral relations, noting that this year coincides with the celebration of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Chinese official said that his visit is part of the enshrinement of the vision of the leaders of the two countries, the strengthening of the Moroccan-Chinese friendship and the promotion of cooperation in all areas, the same source added.

For his part, Talbi El Alami said that the Kingdom of Morocco and the People’s Republic of China share a foundation of common values and interests such as the establishment of international relations based on peace and security, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States, non-interference in the internal affairs of countries and the mobilization of the potential of peoples to create progress and prosperity.

In addition, the two parties discussed a series of issues of common interest and ways to strengthen parliamentary relations between the two legislative institutions in the framework of a memorandum of understanding signed in 2021.

The meeting was also an opportunity to discuss the possibility of creating a parliamentary economic and cultural forum between the two institutions and express the firm commitment to further strengthen cooperation and consultation between their parliamentary committees and parliamentary friendship groups.
