Overnight Stays Increase by 161% at End of March 2023 (Tourism Observatory)

Casablanca – The total overnight stays realized in the classified tourist accommodation establishments have recorded, at the end of March 2023, an increase of 161% compared to the same period of 2022, according to the Tourism Observatory.

In detail, this development concerns non-resident tourists with +366% and residents with +29%, says the Observatory in its statistics for March 2023.

Compared to the end of March 2019, the number of overnight stays decreased by 2% (-6% for non-resident tourists and +9% for residents).

By destination, Marrakech, Tangier, Essaouira and Rabat exceeded the level of the first quarter of 2019 by 9%, 5%, 8% and 2% respectively, while Casablanca and Agadir saw their overnight stays fall by 14% and 15% respectively compared to the level of the first quarter of 2019.

Foreign currency travel receipts generated by the tourist activity of non-residents in Morocco amounted to 25 billion dirhams, during the first quarter of 2023, against 16.5 billion in 2019, i.e. an increase of 51%.
