Speaking at two panels organized within the framework of a meeting dedicated to the presentation of the World Bank report on “Development in the world: migrants, refugees and societies”, the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Morocco (UNHCR), François Reybet-Degat, highlighted Morocco’s efforts to protect the rights of refugees residing in the Kingdom and improve the situation of migrants.
The UN official said that Morocco, thanks to the far-sighted vision of HM King Mohammed VI, has chosen a path of inclusion, through the adoption of a new migration policy and a national immigration and asylum strategy, noting that the Kingdom has made significant achievements in this field.
For his part, the director of the World Bank for the Maghreb and Malta, Jesko Henstchel, stressed that Morocco has made significant progress in the field of immigration and the protection of migrants, praising the efforts made by the Kingdom to ensure the integration of immigrants and refugees and facilitate their access to rights without discrimination.
This event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and Abdelmalek Essaâdi University, is part of the series of events organized in preparation for the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, to be held in Marrakech next October.
It was an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities for migrants and societies of origin and destination, as well as the potential for a mutually beneficial migration experience, particularly in Morocco.
This report aims to provide policy makers with a decision-making tool to better manage migration.
