On the sidelines of the ceremony of awarding official recognition certificates to 24 Important Systems of World Agricultural Heritage (GIAHS), two of them Moroccan, the minister and the director general of the UN organization addressed issues related to food systems and sovereignty.
South-South cooperation and the new Country Programming Framework (CPM), recently concluded between Morocco and FAO for the period 2023-2027, were also on the agenda of this meeting, which took place in the presence of the Kingdom’s ambassador to the UN agencies, Youssef Balla.
Signed on the sidelines of the 15th edition of the International Salon of Agriculture in Morocco (SIAM), this new framework, developed jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and FAO in close collaboration with the various stakeholders involved in the agricultural and food sectors, defines the priority areas of the FAO-Morocco partnership for the period 2023-2027, in line with the priorities of the structuring national strategies, namely the New Development Model, the Green Generation Strategy 2020-2030 and the Morocco Forests Strategy 2020-2030.
In addition to the awarding of certificates and a session presenting the characteristics and significance of all the newly awarded GIAHS, the two-day UN event will also offer an opportunity to taste food and products from the sites, and to enjoy a virtual and fully immersive exhibition of sites and sounds, which give meaning to life in these communities around the world.
