Sahara: Morocco Participates in Regional Seminar of UN Committee of 24 in Indonesia

Bali – Morocco is participating in the seminar of the UN Committee of 24 (C24) for the Pacific region, which is being held in Bali, Indonesia, from May 24 to 26.

The Kingdom is represented during this three-day meeting by a strong delegation chaired by Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Morocco to the UN, Omar Hilale and composed, in particular, of His Majesty the King’s Ambassador to Jakarta, Ouadia Benabdellah and the Director of the United Nations and International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Redouane Houssaini.

As every year, the C24 regional seminar will be the occasion for the Moroccan delegation to highlight the political emancipation as well as the overall socio-economic and human development experienced by the Kingdom’s southern provinces, thanks to the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The Moroccan delegation will also brief seminar participants on the latest developments in the consideration of the national question at the United Nations, including the adoption of Resolution 2654, which reaffirmed the pre-eminence of the Moroccan Self-Government Initiative, whose international support, which exceeds one hundred member states, continues to grow by the day. The opening of 28 Consulates General in the Moroccan cities of Laayoune and Dakhla will also be emphasized, thus consecrating the Moroccan nature of the Sahara.

Resolution 2654 had also reaffirmed the role of Algeria as the main party to this regional dispute and enshrined the round tables as the only way to steer the UN political process with the aim of reaching a political, realistic, pragmatic, sustainable and compromise solution to the Moroccan Sahara issue.
