El Bakkali clocked 7:56.68, beating the previous best time of May 6 by American Kenneth Rooks.
The Moroccan athlete also set a new meeting record, defeating the previous time he set last June (7:58.28).

Rabat – Moroccan athlete Soufiane El Bakkali, reigning Olympic and world champion, achieved the World’s Best Performance (WBP) of the year in the 3000m steeplechase, at the Mohammed VI international athletics meeting, the second stage of the Diamond League, on Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat.
