IS-Affiliated Extremist Arrested in Tangier

Rabat – Policemen in Tangier on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old Islamic State (IS)-affiliated extremist, as part of the security services’ efforts to eradicate terrorist threats and neutralize extremist projects.

The investigations, carried out with the collaboration of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), revealed that the Mohammedia-born suspect had pledged allegiance to the so-called Emir of the Islamic State (known as ‘Daesh’) organization, said a DGST press release.

The suspect was involved in the preparation of terrorist plot against one of the sensitive facilities in Tangier through a destructive act according to the terrorist modus operandi adopted by IS fighters, the same source further noted.

The defendant was detained in order to continue the investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation under the supervision of the General Prosecutor’s Office in charge of terrorism cases in order to identify all of the defendant’s targets and to clarify his links with possible accomplices.
