Upper House Speaker Holds Talks with Italian Peer in Rome

Rome – Strengthening parliamentary and legislative relations was the focus of talks held in Rome on Tuesday between upper house speaker Enaam Mayara, and his Italian counterpart, Lorenzo Fontana.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of the 49th Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), where Mayara took part in his capacity as President of this Mediterranean organization.

The meeting focused on the promotion of bilateral relations between the two legislative institutions, in addition to the need for interparliamentary cooperation between the two parties.

During this meeting, attended by the Ambassador of the Kingdom in Italy, Youssef Balla, Mayara took the opportunity to announce to the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies the celebration of the second Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Parliamentary Forum in Marrakech in December, focusing on energy transition and renewable energies.

For his part, Fontana welcomed the Moroccan-Italian relations based on a strategic partnership and expressed his willingness to further consolidate parliamentary relations with Morocco.

Mayara was unanimously elected as the new president of this international parliamentary organization for the period 2023-2024 at the end of its 17th plenary session, recently held at the Moroccan Parliament.
