“The important role played by His Majesty the King as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, and the trust He enjoys from all parties, give Him not only an in-depth knowledge of the region and the challenges we all face, but also the ideal position to be able to mediate for the peace we all aspire to,” Ohana told the press after a meeting with Morocco’s House of Representatives’ Speaker, Rachid Talbi Alami.
He added that “thanks to the innovative thinking of His Majesty the King, the prospect of peace has moved a step closer.”
Welcoming his visit to the Moroccan parliament, “the first of its kind in Israel’s history to the parliament of a Muslim state”, he paid tribute to “His Majesty King Mohammed VI for his resolutely forward-looking leadership, for his vision of peace, for his innovative and groundbreaking thinking.”
Ohanna also recalled the benevolence with which the late HM Mohammed V surrounded Moroccan Jews, evoking in particular the role the late Sovereign played in protecting Jews from Nazi oppression during the Second World War.
For this, “Jews will always be grateful to him,” he concluded.
