Rabat – Royal Navy combat units on patrol in the Atlantic, in collaboration with radar stations in the area, aborted a drug trafficking operation off the coast of Mehdia on Monday, after chasing a Go-Fast at sea, according to a military source.

The operation resulted in apprehending six traffickers, including one of Spanish nationality, and in seizing a large quantity of cannabis resin locally known as ‘chira’, amounting to over 3.5 tonnes, the source added.

The offenders, the equipment and the cargo seized were handed over to the Mehdia Royal Gendarmerie, for the usual administrative procedures, according to the same source.
