Road Accidents: 15 Killed in Morocco’s Urban Areas Last Week

Rabat – A total of 15 people lost their lives and 2,164 others were injured, including 94 seriously, in 1,638 traffic accidents occurred in urban areas during the week of June 05-11.

These accidents are mainly due to drivers’ inattention, non-respect of priority, speeding, pedestrians’ inattention, non-respect of the safety distance and unauthorized change of direction, among other reasons, the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN) specifies in a statement.

Regarding the control and repression of traffic violations, the security services have established 48,097 tickets and 9,165 reports submitted to the prosecutor, while 38,932 fines were recovered, added the same source.

The sums collected under these tickets have reached 8,219,850 dirhams, according to the statement which reports the impounding of 5,554 vehicles, the seizure of 9,165 documents and the withdrawal of 352 vehicles from circulation.
